Chapter 11 - The Boardroom Coup

The executive boardroom on the fiftieth floor of Vale Spire smelled of expensive leather, cold coffee, and corporate betrayal.
Seven elderly men and women—the old guard appointed by Eleanor Vale two decades ago—sat around the mahogany table like vultures waiting for a carcass to grow cold. Arthur Pendelton, the senior board director who had watched Colton grow up from a silent, lonely boy into a ruthless tycoon, stood at the head of the table.
“Colton,” Arthur began with a patronizing smile as Colton pushed open the glass doors. “We’re sorry it has to come to this. But your recent erratic behavior—abandoning multi-billion-dollar deals, harboring unauthorized family members, and bringing police into our corporate ecosystem—has compromised our market value.”
Colton walked slowly to the head of the table, pulling out the center chair. He didn't sit down.
“Compromised our market value?” Colton repeated, his voice dangerously quiet. “Arthur, under your silent supervision, Vanguard Holdings funneled twelve million dollars of embezzled funds into offshore accounts while covering up corporate extortion.”
The color drained from Arthur’s face. Several board members gasped, shifting nervously in their seats.
“That’s an absurd accusation—!” Arthur stammered, slamming his palm on the table.
“Is it?” Colton tapped a button on his phone.
Instantly, the wall-mounted projection screen flickered to life, displaying signed bank transfers, encrypted emails between Arthur and Julian Vale, and federal audit transcripts detailing every illegal kickback executed over the last fifteen years.
“You thought because my mother died, her digital ledger died with her,” Colton said, leaning forward, resting his knuckles on the table and towering over them. “You thought you could control me the same way she did. But you miscalculated.”
“You can’t do this, Colton!” an elderly female director cried out, standing up. “We built this company!”
“You built a criminal syndicate disguised as a philanthropy,” Colton corrected coldly. “Security is waiting outside. You have ten minutes to clear your desks, hand over your security badges, and walk out of this building. If you utter a single word about contesting this restructuring, I will personally see to it that you share a cell with my cousin.”

Within eight minutes, the fiftieth floor was completely cleared of ghosts.
