Chapter 6 - The Penthouse Confrontation

The penthouse at the top of the Bellevue tower was dark, silent, and reeked of expensive scotch and cedarwood.
Colton didn't wait for the security guard downstairs to announce him. Using his own override code as a primary stakeholder in the building’s development trust, he stepped off the private elevator directly into Julian’s sprawling, minimalist living room.
“Julian!” Colton’s voice echoed off the polished concrete floors.
From the shadow of the wrap-around balcony, a figure stepped forward, holding a crystal tumbler filled with amber liquid. Julian Vale looked immaculate in a silk bathrobe, smiling with that familiar, predatory arrogance that ran deep in the family bloodline.
“Well, well. Look who decided to grace us with his presence,” Julian drawled, taking a sip of his drink. “I hear you abandoned a three-billion-dollar deal today to go play savior to a poor old maid and a bratty kid in a rundown apartment. Aunt Eleanor would be spinning in her grave.”
Colton walked slowly across the room, stopping ten feet from Julian. The air between them felt charged with static electricity.
“Where is Chloe?” Colton asked, his voice chillingly calm.
Julian’s smile faltered for a fraction of a second, but he quickly recovered, chuckling softly. “Chloe? Who knows? Girls like that tend to run off when they realize they don't belong in high society. Maybe she’s living on a beach in Mexico. Maybe she—”
Before Julian could finish the sentence, Colton crossed the distance between them with terrifying speed, grabbing Julian by the lapels of his silk robe and slamming him hard against the floor-to-ceiling glass window.
The glass bowed outward under the impact, city lights glittering hundreds of feet below them.
Julian gasped, dropping his glass, his hands clawing at Colton’s wrists. “Are you out of your mind? You’re going to throw everything away over a bastard half-sister?!”
“Where is she, Julian?” Colton hissed, pressing his forearm against Julian’s throat just enough to cut off his air supply. “You sent the email. You controlled Vanguard Holdings after my mother died. You kept the extortion going.”
“Okay! Okay! Stop!” Julian choked out, his face turning red.
Colton eased his grip slightly, but didn't let go.
“She’s... she’s not dead,” Julian wheezed, glaring up at Colton with pure malice. “Aunt Eleanor had her locked away in a private psychiatric facility upstate to keep her from contesting the will. When I took over the trust, I kept her there. She’s alive, Colton. But she’s heavily medicated, and she doesn't even remember who Junie is.”
Colton felt a cold fury wash over him. He wanted to shatter the glass behind Julian and throw him into the night sky. Instead, he forced his breathing to steady, maintaining absolute, ruthless control.

“If a single hair on her head is harmed,” Colton whispered into Julian’s ear, “I won't just send you to federal prison. I will dismantle every asset, every account, and every dream you have ever had, and leave you standing on the street with nothing.”
As Colton released his grip, the sound of heavy boots echoing from the private elevator signaled the arrival of Marcus Vance and the state police.
