Chapter 15 - The Healing Garden

The dust settled as quickly as it had risen.

Chloe let out a long, shuddering breath, sinking onto the sofa. Solana walked over, placing a comforting hand on her daughter’s shoulder.

Colton walked across the room, kneeling beside the coffee table and picking up the legal document, tossing it carelessly into the recycling bin. He looked up at Chloe, offering a reassuring smile.

“She’s gone, Chloe,” Colton said softly. “Nobody will ever touch you or Junie again. You have my word.”

Chloe managed a small, genuine smile, wiping a stray tear from her cheek. “Thank you, Colton. For everything.”

“Don't thank me,” Colton replied, standing up. “Thank Junie. She’s the one who wanted a hamburger in the rain.”

That evening, the family gathered around the large wooden dining table for dinner. There was no tension, no corporate anxiety, and no dark secrets lingering in the corners of the room. Just warm food, laughter, and the simple comfort of belonging.

Later that night, after Junie had fallen asleep clutching her stuffed rabbit upstairs, Colton and Solana stood out on the wraparound porch, looking up at the starlit sky.

“You know, Colton,” Solana said quietly, resting her hands on the wooden railing. “Your father would have been proud of the man you’ve become. Not because you built a billion-dollar empire... but because you finally learned how to build a home.”

Colton turned his gaze toward the horizon, where the distant lights of Seattle twinkled against the dark hills.

“It took me twenty years, Solana,” he murmured, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. “But I finally got it right.”
