Chapter 1 - The Weight of the PastThe heavy silence inside the grand cathedral felt suffocating. Outside, the autumn rain beat relentlessly against the stained-glass windows, but inside, the temperature had plummeted to freezing.

Elena stood a few paces back, her knees still aching slightly from the cold marble floor where she had knelt just moments before. In her hand, the small metallic capsule felt like a live grenade. The red collar around her neck—a bizarre, matching token she and Max had worn since they were teenagers—now felt less like a quirky fashion statement and more like a leash.
Max lunged forward again, his fingers clawing at the air between them. His usual charm, the smooth, effortless charisma that had made him a rising star in corporate finance, had completely vanished. His eyes were wide, bloodshot, and wild with panic.
"Elena, please. Give it to me," Max begged, his voice cracking, losing all its polished composure in front of the two hundred elite guests seated in the pews. "You don't understand what kind of sick joke this is. Your father... your father wasn't well at the end. He was delusional."
"Delusional?" Elena's voice shook, cutting through the church acoustics like broken glass. "He spent the last three years of his life locked in this obsession, Max. And you told me he just wandered off. You told me he abandoned us."
"Because he did!" Max shouted, taking a desperate step forward.
"Then why are you shaking?" Elena whispered, stepping backward toward the altar steps. She pressed the tiny micro-SD card against her palm. "Why are you looking at a piece of plastic like it's a ghost?"
The wedding guests began to murmur. Whispers rippled through the rows of expensive silk dresses and tailored suits. Heads turned back and forth between the bride in her breathtaking white gown and the trembling groom who looked ready to bolt.

Elena didn't wait for another excuse. She turned sharply toward the massive multimedia screen erected near the altar—the one meant to display a romantic montage of their childhood photos. With trembling fingers, she slid the micro-SD card into the hidden slot of the control console.
The projector hummed to life.
