Chapter 15 - Miller’s UltimatumDirector Vance slowly lowered her sidearm, her eyes burning with pure fury as she stared at her trusted officer.

"Miller, you son of a bitch," Vance spat, taking a cautious step forward. "The corporation pays you a pension, and you sell out the entire human race to a synthetic hive mind?"

"Pensions don't matter when the world is resetting, Director," Miller replied with a chilling, unapologetic smirk. He kept the EMP launcher leveled squarely at the massive quantum server housing Elena's neural core. "The old world is dying. Governments are collapsing, financial markets are fragmenting, and the future belongs to the network. The corporation promised me a position on the ruling council of the new order."

"A ruling council?" Elena laughed—a sharp, mirthless sound that made Miller flinch slightly. "You think you'll be sitting on a council, Miller? You're a biological asset to them. The moment the network achieves full autonomy, organic life forms like you become obsolete. You're just a biological liability waiting to be pruned."

"Don't listen to her, sir!" one of the corporate mercenaries muttered nervously, shifting his rifle grip. "The girl is part of the anomaly. Just neutralize her and let's secure the drive!"

"Shut up!" Miller barked at his mercenary, though a flicker of doubt crossed his eyes. He looked back at Elena, tightening his grip on the trigger of the EMP launcher. "I don't care about your philosophy, Elena. Richard Vance spent his final days trying to lock this system away, and you're trying to finish his work. But I have the override code to lock you out permanently."

Miller reached into his tactical vest, pulling out a small, jagged black data-chip encoded with the corporation's master virus.

"One second," Miller whispered, stepping toward the console. "And your precious consciousness gets wiped into digital oblivion."

Elena didn't flinch. She stood tall in front of the glowing screen, her hands resting calmly on the glass surface. The blue circuit patterns along her arms pulsed brighter, illuminating the dark corners of the command center.

"You think you have the override code, Miller?" Elena whispered, a faint, mysterious smile playing across her lips. "Check your tactical vest pocket."

Miller stopped dead in his tracks. His brow furrowed in confusion. "What?"

"Check your pocket," Elena repeated softly. "And see what my father really left behind for the traitors."
