Chapter 9 - The Ultimate BetrayalI froze. The rage in my chest suddenly gave way to a cold, stunned silence.

“What did you just say?”
“Brittany,” Eleanor choked out, trembling violently. “She’s not as stupid as she pretends to be. Two months ago, when Jason thought he was securing his future with her in Mexico... she wasn't just seeing him. She was also meeting with a wealthy international shipping heir she met in Tulum. A man worth ten times what Jason ever dreamed of having.”
Eleanor grabbed my wrist with surprising strength, her fingers cold as ice.
“Jason took a paternity test in secret last week through his jail’s medical liaison because doubts finally crept in. The results came back this morning. The DNA doesn't match him at all. Brittany used him as a meal ticket, trapped him with a scandal, and is planning to take whatever is left of his non-existent estate to chase her shipping heir across Europe.”
I stared at the old woman.
The circle was complete. The master manipulators had been utterly destroyed by their own toxic creations.
Jason was sitting in a federal holding cell, facing prison time for a crime he committed to fund a woman carrying another man’s children, while his mother sat before me, broken and weeping over the collapse of her precious bloodline.
“Why are you telling me this?” I asked, my voice terrifyingly calm. “Why come all the way out here to confess this to me?”

Eleanor slumped back into the chair, staring blankly at the stone hearth.
“Because I wanted you to know that the monster you defeated wasn't just Jason. It was our entire legacy. And you... you survived us all.”
