Chapter 2 - THE ANOMALYThe lab technician arrived with an air of professional indifference. As she swabbed Miles's tiny cheek, I watched Caleb’s face. He was looking at Miles not with fatherly pride, but with the suspicious gaze of a man looking at a fraud.

The technician left, and the silence returned.
"What happens if it's yours?" I asked.
Caleb hesitated. "Then... we figure out how the medical records were wrong."
"And if it's not?"
"Brooke, please."

He couldn't look at me. "I don't know."
