Chapter 3 - MARGARET’S DARK AGENDAWhile Caleb was out grabbing coffee, Margaret slithered back in. She didn't acknowledge me. She went straight to the bassinet, staring at Miles with a look of pure, unadulterated hatred.

"You’ve ruined him," she hissed, not even turning around. "My son was destined for a life of prestige. A life with a woman of our 'class.' And now, he’s burdened with your filth."

"My 'filth'?" I sat up, my incision throbbing. "I’m a woman who worked two jobs while Caleb finished his degree. I’m the one who paid off your gambling debts when his father died."

She whipped around, her eyes wide. "That was supposed to be a secret."

"It was a secret," I said, a dark smile forming. "But I have receipts, Margaret. I have every bank transfer. And if Caleb is going to question my integrity, maybe it’s time he questions yours."
