Chapter 2 - The Curse of the Star-BornLocked away once more in her private chambers, Elina stared into the polished silver mirror on her vanity table. The reflection showed nothing—only the shimmering vortex of the cosmos swirling where her face belonged. She raised a slender, pale hand and touched the smooth expanse of her cheek. No tears could fall, for she possessed no eyes to weep them.

The door burst open with a resounding crash. It was her father, his crown slightly crooked, his breath coming in ragged gasps.

"My sweet child," the king choked out, falling to his knees before her and burying his face in the folds of her white wedding gown. "I am sorry. I thought if we hid you, if we pretended you were just a cursed girl with a deformity, the world would leave you in peace. I never wanted them to see the truth."

"What am I, Father?" Elina’s voice did not come from a mouth, but resonated directly inside the room, a haunting, melodic chime like glass bells ringing in a deep cavern. "Why did Mother die knowing this secret? Why am I like this?"

The king looked up, tears streaming down his weathered cheeks. "Your mother... she was not of this earth, Elina. She came from the Sky-Wept Reach, a fallen realm beyond the clouds where mortals are forbidden to tread. When she bore you, her mortal form could not sustain the raw essence of the cosmos she carried. You are not cursed. You are the vessel of the Primordial Star—the living bridge between our world and the celestial gates."

He reached into his tunic and pulled out a small, heavy parchment sealed with black wax—a document the queen had left behind before her final breath.

"The moment the helmet came off in consecrated ground," the king whispered grimly, "the celestial seal was broken. The watchers in the sky have awakened. And they are coming for you."
