Chapter 6 - The Blood-Red DawnThe execution square outside the cathedral was packed to capacity. The morning sun rose through a thick, unnatural haze, casting a bloody crimson glow over the cobblestones. Duke Malakor, wearing the stolen crown of Oakhaven, sat proudly upon a raised wooden platform. Beside him stood the royal executioner, hefting a massive, notched broadsword.

"Bring out the abomination!" Malakor shouted to the roaring crowd, who had been whipped into a frenzy by his propaganda.
Guards dragged a cloaked figure up the steps. The hood was pulled back, revealing the smooth, star-filled void where Elina’s face should have been. A wave of terrified shrieks swept through the front rows of the crowd, quickly turning into angry chants demanding her immediate destruction.
"For too long, this creature and her mad father have cursed our land!" Malakor proclaimed, raising his arms to the sky. "Today, Oakhaven is cleansed! Executioner, strike—"
Before the executioner could raise his sword, the sky above the square violently tore open.

A deafening crack like thunder shook the foundations of the city. The crimson sun was instantly blotted out by an enormous, swirling gateway of violet energy that opened directly over the cathedral. The wind whipped into a hurricane gale, tearing banners from the walls and sending the crowd scrambling in sheer, unadulterated panic.
From the glowing rift, towering, shadow-like entities with eyes made of burning comets began to descend—the celestial wardens of the void, answering the call of their awakened vessel.
