Chapter 17 - THE SUNSET AT GREENWICHThe gala ended late into the evening, and by midnight, the black Mercedes-Benz carrying Mia, Clara, and Marco pulled through the iron gates of the Greenwich estate.

The moon was high and bright, casting a silvery glow across the manicured lawns and the grand stone facade of the mansion. The air carried the sweet, earthy scent of spring blossoms and damp earth.
Upstairs in the nursery, Mia gently laid Clara down in her crib, adjusting the pink blanket and kissing her forehead. The toddler rolled over, clutching her small stuffed rabbit and drifting back into peaceful slumber.
Mia walked out onto the stone balcony of the master suite, leaning her hands against the cool wrought-iron railing.
The wind whispered softly through the ancient oak trees. Down below, Marco completed his final perimeter check before securing the grounds for the night, giving a respectful nod upward toward the balcony before disappearing into the service wing.
Mia closed her eyes, breathing in the cool night air. She thought back to the hospital room in Chicago eighteen months ago—the antiseptic smell, the physical pain of childbirth, the phone call from a arrogant ex-husband trying to humiliate her with news of his wedding. It felt like a lifetime ago, played out in another dimension by entirely different people.
She had survived the fire, and she had built a kingdom from the ashes.
A warm pair of arms slipped gently around her waist from behind, resting comfortably against her shoulders. She didn't need to turn around to know it was Marcus, who had stayed behind to review the final foundation charters with her.
You're standing out here in the cold without a wrap, Marcus murmured softly, resting his chin near her shoulder.

I'm not cold, Marcus, Mia replied, leaning back slightly into his embrace, feeling the steady, grounding warmth of a partnership built on mutual respect, shared integrity, and absolute trust. I've never been warmer.
The future stretched out before them—vast, secure, and entirely unwritten by anyone else's hand.
