Chapter 20 - The Unbroken Circle

The autumn wind swept across the expansive lawns of Georgetown as I locked the heavy oak front doors of the Vance Center, stepping out into the crisp, star-lit night. The air tasted of freedom, clean and sharp.
Years ago, a arrogant mother-in-law had sneered at me across a mahogany table, calling me uneducated and demanding I bow my head to serve her spoiled family. She had thought a plate of short ribs and a staged humiliation would break my spirit and seal my doom. Instead, she had inadvertently handed the keys of her entire empire to the very daughter of the man she had destroyed, sparking a reckoning that burned her gilded world to ash.
I slipped the heavy brass key into my pocket, walked down the marble steps, and climbed into my car. The past was buried, justice had been served, and the road ahead belonged entirely to me. I started the engine, smiled into the dark, and drove straight into my unwritten future.
