Chapter 8 - The Siege of Georgetown

The black-and-white federal cruisers converged on the stately gates of the Georgetown mansion with terrifying speed, their sirens cut short to preserve the element of surprise. Heavy boots hit the manicured gravel driveway as tactical units poured out, securing every exit, perimeter wall, and security post.

I stepped out of my unmarked vehicle, adjusting my trench coat, no longer the timid, submissive new bride who had wept over a ruined dinner plate. I was the federal investigator who had brought down dynasties.

As I walked up the marble steps, the heavy oak front door swung open. Evangeline stood in the grand foyer, flanked by two private security guards. Her face, usually a mask of haughty aristocratic poise, was entirely drained of color.

"What is the meaning of this?!" Evangeline shrieked, her voice echoing off the vaulted ceilings. "Get these thugs off my property! Do you know who I am? I will have every single one of your badges!"

Thane rushed down the grand curved staircase behind her, his eyes wide with sheer, unadulterated panic. When he saw me standing at the threshold, flanked by federal agents, his knees buckled.

"Eloan..." he whispered, his voice trembling violently. "What... what is this? What are you doing?"

I walked past the security guards, my heels clicking sharply against the marble floor like a metronome of doom. I stopped five feet away from my so-called husband, looking him dead in the eye with a gaze as cold as absolute zero.

"I told you, Thane," I said, my voice carrying effortlessly through the silent foyer. "If you wanted a spineless dog who bows her head when spat upon, you married the wrong woman."

Agent Miller stepped forward, flashing a federal warrant directly into Evangeline’s face. "Evangeline Sterling, Thane Sterling, you are under arrest for corporate fraud, money laundering, conspiracy, and the wrongful death of Genevieve Vance."

"This is a lie! A conspiracy!" Evangeline screamed, lunging forward like a cornered animal. "That uneducated trash planted evidence! She's nothing—she's a nobody!"

"She's a federal agent, Mrs. Sterling," Agent Miller replied coldly, gesturing to the tactical team as they slapped heavy steel handcuffs onto both Evangeline and Thane.

Calliope appeared at the top of the stairs, clutching a designer handbag, sobbing hysterically as federal agents placed her under arrest as an accessory to financial concealment. The mighty Sterling empire, built on lies, cruelty, and blood, was collapsing like a house of cards in a matter of minutes.
