Chapter 3 - The Untouchable EstateBy the time I reached the airport’s VIP parking garage and unlocked my midnight-blue Range Rover, my phone buzzed. It wasn't Jack. It was Gerald.

"Megan," Gerald said, his voice clipped and efficient. "The corporate audit teams have formally locked the Dallas General accounts. The hospital board has convened an emergency virtual session. They’ve suspended Jack’s surgical privileges pending a full investigation into the diverted grant funds and the fraudulent procurement contracts with Ms. Brooks."
"And the personal assets?" I asked, adjusting my rearview mirror as I pulled out of the parking structure.
"Frozen," Gerald confirmed. "Every single asset purchased under the joint marital trust—including the vacation home in Aspen, the yacht docked in Corpus Christi, and the primary residence on Oakridge Drive—has been placed under a forensic lien. Under the prenuptial agreement your father drafted ten years ago, which Jack signed under legal counsel without reading the fine print, any proven financial infidelity or corporate malfeasance immediately invalidates all shared property rights. Jack owns zero percent of everything."
A cold, satisfying thrill washed over me. Ten years of calculated gaslighting, silent disrespect, and secret betrayals, dismantled in less than twenty minutes.
"What about Carol and Ashley?" I asked.
"They're stranded," Gerald said dryly. "Their return tickets were booked on Jack’s corporate travel account, which has been flagged for immediate cancellation. They can't check in, they can't rent a car, and their credit cards are currently bouncing at every terminal vendor from here to baggage claim."
"Good," I said softly. "Let them experience what it feels like to be completely stripped of the life I built for them."
"There's more," Gerald added, pausing for a beat. "Jack is currently attempting to call you from a burner phone he just bought at a terminal kiosk. He’s tried twelve times in the last three minutes."
May you like
"Send it straight to voicemail, Gerald. In fact, let’s forward his calls to a recorded message of our own."
I tapped the screen of my dashboard, syncing my phone to the vehicle's sound system as I merged onto the highway heading back toward the city. The city lights blurred past me, beautiful and sharp against the dark Texas night. I was no longer the invisible wife standing in the background. I was the architect of their downfall, and the foundation was just beginning to crumble.
