Chapter 15 - Ambush on the Rails

The private bullet train carrying Sophia and her security detail back to Milan hurtled through the rugged northern Italian countryside at two hundred miles per hour. Inside the private carriage, Sophia reviewed cargo manifests on her tablet, completely unaware of the digital snare tightening ahead.

Suddenly, the train’s emergency brakes engaged with a deafening screech of iron against steel. Sparks showered past the reinforced windows as the carriage violently decelerated, throwing luggage and guards off balance.

"Ambush!" Mateo roared, drawing his weapon as the exterior communication lines went dead. "We've been decoupled from the engine!"

Before Mateo could respond, the roof panel of the carriage was blown off with a shaped thermal charge. Masked operatives dropped into the cabin, heavy assault rifles leveled at their chests.
