Chapter 9 - The New Dawn

Three days later, the Moretti estate was a silent fortress once more, though the charred ruins of the east wing remained as a grim monument to the night of blood and fire.
In the sunlit courtyard, Rocco sat in a wrought-iron chair, holding a tiny bundle wrapped in a pristine cream-colored blanket. The baby was sleeping peacefully, his small fingers curled into tiny fists.
Standing a few feet away was Sophia, wearing a brand-new dress, her hair neatly brushed, holding her mother’s hand.
Rocco looked up, his severe features softening just fractionally as he gestured for the little girl to come closer.
Sophia hesitated for a second, then walked up to the powerful mafia boss, her posture straight and fearless.
"Sophia Bellini," Rocco said, his deep voice carrying across the courtyard. "You saved the future of the Moretti family when an entire army of grown men failed. In our world, debts are always paid in full."
He reached into his breast pocket and pulled out a heavy, platinum signet ring bearing the crest of the Moretti dynasty—a ring that commanded absolute loyalty across the entire European underworld.
"Your mother will never have to clean another floor as long as she lives," Rocco continued, kneeling down so he was eye-level with the eight-year-old. "And you... you will be educated at the finest academies in Switzerland. When you turn twenty-one, this ring—and a seat at the high table—will be waiting for you."

Sophia looked at the heavy platinum ring, then up at Rocco’s face. She didn't smile, but she gave a single, firm nod. "Thank you, sir. But I think I'll keep an eye on the back kitchen door anyway. People forget to lock it."
Rocco let out a rare, genuine sound of amusement—a deep, low rumble of laughter that signaled the rebirth of an empire.
