Chapter 8 - The Reckoning in the Library

Back in the grand library, the sound of the explosion echoed across the lake. Marco’s smug smile vanished instantly.

"What was that?" Marco demanded, standing up from the armchair.

"That," Rocco said, stepping forward until the barrel of his Beretta touched the old man’s forehead, "was the sound of your strike team failing."

Marco’s face paled. He looked at the door, then back at Rocco’s unyielding eyes. "You planned this. You knew about the betrayal before tonight."

"I knew Valentina was leaking data three months ago," Rocco stated coldly. "I used her leaks to feed false coordinates to the Savinos, bankrupting their primary shipping lines. But I didn't know she had targeted my son. That was her fatal error. She touched the bloodline."

Marco let out a harsh, bitter laugh. "You think killing me solves anything, Rocco? The Syndicate will tear you apart piece by piece! There are fifty capos ready to take my place!"

"Let them come," Rocco whispered. "I built this empire on systems. But I will burn it to ash on blood."

Bang.

The shot echoed through the burning mansion, silencing the old man forever. Rocco stepped over the fallen body without a glance, walking out onto the balcony as the first streaks of dawn began to break through the smoke-choked sky.
