Chapter 24 - The Breach

Damian didn't hesitate. He grabbed Elena by the wrist, pulling her toward the reinforced emergency elevator hidden behind the archive's back wall. "Get in."
"Damian—"
"Move!" he barked, slamming the biometric panel with his thumb. The steel doors slid shut just as a burst of automatic gunfire chewed through the outer archive door, sending sparks and concrete dust flying into the vault.
The elevator dropped rapidly into the sub-basement bunker—a safe room Damian had built during the estate's recent reconstruction. The doors opened to reveal a secure command hub equipped with satellite monitors and tactical gear racks.
Clara and three-year-old Lily were already huddled in the reinforced panic corner, guarded by two loyal security operatives. Lily looked up, her eyes wide with fear, clutching a fresh sheet of paper in her small fists.
Damian knelt down beside her, his expression softening instantly beneath the tactical helmet. "Lily, are you alright?"
The child nodded slowly, then handed him the paper. Damian unfolded it. It wasn't a monster this time. It was a house surrounded by dark, jagged lines—and three figures standing outside under a pouring rain.
"Who is this, Lily?" Damian asked gently, his chest tightening.
May you like
"The men with the iron faces," Lily whispered, her voice trembling. "They came through the garden."
Damian stood up, handing his sidearm to Marcus as he stepped toward the master tactical display console. The exterior camera feeds flickered to life. The estate’s new gates were blown wide open. A convoy of unmarked armored vehicles had breached the perimeter, disgorging a dozen heavily armed mercenaries wearing unmarked tactical black gear—professionals far more disciplined and lethal than Julian’s private army or Victor Thorne’s thugs.
