Chapter 11 - The Lobby ConfrontationDown in the cavernous lobby of Vanguard Holdings, Alexander Grant stood frozen beneath the towering brass-and-glass arches. Two security guards in crisp gray uniforms flanked him, their massive frames forming an impenetrable wall between him and the elevator banks.

“You can’t do this!” Alexander shouted, his voice cracking against the marble acoustics as a few passing executives cast cold, indifferent glances in his direction. “I am an officer of this corporation! My family built these foundations! You tell Erin—you tell her Alexander Grant demands to speak with her right now!”

The head security guard, a towering veteran named Marcus who had spent a decade protecting high-profile assets, didn't even blink. “Mrs. Vanguard is currently unavailable, Mr. Grant. And according to building clearance protocols updated this morning, your biometric access and visitor privileges have been permanently revoked.”

Alexander’s face flushed a deep, sickly purple. The tailored cashmere coat he wore—once a symbol of effortless wealth—now looked slightly frayed at the cuffs, a silent testament to a man living on borrowed time and rapidly depleting savings. Without his trust fund, without his corporate dividends, and without the family name to shield him, he was nothing more than an abrasive ghost rattling a cage he had locked himself out of.

As Marcus motioned toward the revolving glass doors, Alexander took one desperate step forward, his fingers clawing at the air. “She ruined me! She stole my life, my company, my entire future over a petty domestic dispute!”

“No, Mr. Grant,” a crisp, elegant voice rang out from the mezzanine balcony above.

Alexander whipped his head upward. Standing on the curved glass walkway, draped in a tailored charcoal blazer with her silver hair catching the midday light, stood Eleanor—the former Fifth Avenue boutique manager who had now been brought on as Vanguard’s Chief Operating Officer.

“Mrs. Vanguard didn't steal your life,” Eleanor said, looking down at him with clinical detachment. “She simply balanced the ledger. You taught her that everything has a price. You just forgot that you couldn't afford the bill.”

Before Alexander could unleash another frantic tirade, Marcus and his partner firmly grasped his arms and escorted him out into the bustling, unforgiving sleet of Manhattan.
