Chapter 6 - The Audit of a Lifetime“I mean that the black card you handed me last night was tied directly to your discretionary liquid reserves,” I explained, walking over to the kitchen island and picking up a thick dossier of financial papers. I flipped open the folder and slid it across the marble toward him.

“When your grandfather passed away, your family structured your trust to reward aggressive asset management, but it also contained a hidden morality and solvency clause,” I continued, my voice calm and clinical. “Every illegal tax shelter, every offshore holding account your uncles set up to siphon money away from the family estate—I documented all of it while you were busy ignoring me in our study.”
Alexander’s lawyers frantically flipped through the pages, their faces turning pale as ghost sheets. One of them looked up at Alexander with eyes wide with horror. “Mr. Grant... she’s right. These aren't just personal bank statements. These are federal audit flags. If these documents are filed with the SEC—and based on these timestamped receipts, they already have been—the entire Grant family portfolio will be frozen within the hour.”
Alexander grabbed the edge of the marble counter, his knuckles turning white as bone. He stared at me not with anger, but with a horrifying, creeping realization of who I truly was. For two years, he thought he had married a quiet, submissive ornament. He never bothered to look past the surface because arrogance had blinded him.

“You planned this,” he whispered, his voice cracking. “All of it. Even the dinner... even the cuff link...”
“I spent three months restoring your grandfather’s cuff link because I honored the memory of a good man who actually built something with his own hands,” I said, my voice hardening. “You inherited an empire you didn't earn, and you treated the people around you like disposable trash. You thought buying me off with a piece of plastic was the ultimate insult. You just didn't realize you were handing me the keys to your prison.”
