Chapter 7 - The Mastermind Unmasked

Lena ran into the stormy night, her vision blurred by tears, her rain-soaked coat heavy against her body. She had no money, no phone, and nowhere to go. The reality she had built over the past month—the faint hope that a cold, powerful man could truly love a simple art student—had dissolved into ash.

As she reached the perimeter gates of the estate, a black luxury sedan pulled up beside her. The rear door swung open.

"Get in, Ms. Park," a calm, elderly voice called out from the back seat.

Lena stopped, wiping the rain from her eyes. Sitting inside was an elderly man with pristine white hair, wearing a high-end tailored suit, holding a silver-topped cane.

"Who are you?" Lena demanded, backing away.

"I am Victor Marcone," the old man said with a cold, terrifying elegance. "The patriarch of the Marcone family. And the man who holds the key to the truth Nikolai Voss has been hiding from you."

Lena hesitated. "I don't want anything to do with any of you!"

"Nikolai lied to you about your parents," Victor said softly, tapping his cane against the car floor. "He told you it was an accident, didn't he? He told you he was just a innocent lieutenant whose brakes failed?"

Lena froze. "How do you know that?"

"Because I gave him the order that night," Victor revealed, a wicked smile creeping across his wrinkled face. "Your father was a high-ranking state prosecutor who was preparing an indictment that would have sent Nikolai’s entire family to prison for life. Nikolai didn't accidentally crash into your family, Lena. He was paid five hundred thousand dollars to ram their vehicle off the bridge."

The world seemed to spin around Lena. The ground felt unstable, like she was falling into a bottomless pit.

"Get in the car, my dear," Victor said, gesturing to the leather seat beside him. "Let me help you take your revenge against the man who destroyed your life."

Numb with shock and overwhelmed by a wave of crushing betrayal, Lena stepped into the car. The door slammed shut, and the sedan sped away into the darkness.

Inside the car, Victor pulled a small vial and a velvet box from his coat pocket.

"Nikolai Voss will be attending the annual Waterfront Charity Gala tonight at the Grand City Hotel," Victor explained, opening the box to reveal a small, exquisite silver hairpin with a hollowed needle at its tip. "He will be expecting you to come back to him. You will walk up to him, pretend you forgive him, and strike this pin into his neck. It contains a odorless, quick-acting neurotoxin. Within two minutes, his heart will stop."

Lena looked at the needle, her hands trembling violently. "And... and my grandmother?"

"She will be taken care of for life," Victor promised smoothly. "And you will inherit Nikolai’s non-criminal assets through a trust fund I have already arranged. Justice will finally be served."

Lena stared at the glittering silver hairpin. Her heart was a cold, dead stone.

"Give it to me," she whispered.
