Chapter 28 - The Final Lesson

In a quiet, peaceful room at the private senior care facility, Leticia Rivas passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of eighty-two.
There were no grand society funerals, no politicians in black suits, and no hypocritical eulogies from people who only cared about her name.
The funeral was small, quiet, and dignified.
Only Andrés, Sofia, and I stood beside the simple mahogany casket in the estate’s private chapel as the priest offered a final prayer for her soul.
As the service concluded, I stepped forward and placed a single white rose—the kind she had always loved—on top of the polished wood.
“Rest in peace, Mother,” I whispered softly.
Sofia stepped up beside me, slipping her warm hand into mine, holding a small, hand-painted blue Easter egg she had brought as a final farewell.

“She knows you forgave her, Mommy,” Sofia said gently, looking up at me with clear, wise eyes.
I looked down at my daughter, feeling a profound, unshakeable sense of completion wash over my soul. The cycle of cruelty, greed, and generational bitterness had finally been broken.
