Chapter 38 - The Next Generation

By early summer, Sofia received her official acceptance letter into the university's Honors Finance and Economics program, accompanied by a prestigious merit scholarship.

To celebrate, we didn't host a lavish society gala with politicians, fake smiles, and expensive champagne in Polanco. Instead, we hosted a warm, joyful garden barbecue right on the lawn of the San Ángel estate, inviting the teachers, local community leaders, and children who made the foundation a living, breathing home.

Sofia wore a bright yellow summer dress—a deliberate, cheerful nod to the little girl in the yellow dress who had once been thrown to the floor in that very house years ago.

She walked over to the long wooden table in the center of the garden, holding a freshly painted blue Easter egg decorated with bright green leaves and delicate flowers.

“To new beginnings,” Sofia smiled, placing the egg right in the center of the table.

Everyone around the table raised their glasses—Andrés, the children, the teachers, and even a quiet, hardworking kitchen assistant standing near the back edge of the garden in a simple apron, watching with tears of quiet redemption in her eyes.
