Chapter 15 - Sister or Siren

The room fell into a suffocating, heavy silence.
Elena Voss smiled—a cold, heartless smile that lacked every trace of the gentle little girl Julian had spent his entire life mourning. "I faked my cardiac arrest, brother," she said, stepping down the metal staircase with a pistol resting casually at her side. "Arthur Whitaker didn't let me die. He helped me escape."
"Why?" Julian rasped, horror filling his chest. "I built an empire for you! I slaughtered every man who touched our family because I thought you were gone!"
"You built a gutter empire of thugs and blood!" Elena sneered, her eyes burning with a dark, twisted insanity. "I didn't want your protection, Julian! I wanted absolute power. Arthur Whitaker realized my genius. We used our family's tragedy to fake my death, create the Serpent's Ring, and harvest Isabella Falcone’s genetic cure for cellular regeneration."
She pointed her weapon directly at Cora’s heart.
"Isabella Falcone holds the blood key to eternal youth," Elena revealed, her voice dripping with venom. "And Cora is her only genetic carrier. For ten years, I’ve been waiting for Arthur to bring her to me. But then you took her, Julian. You fell in love with the daughter of the man who supposedly killed me!"
"She had nothing to do with it!" Julian stepped in front of Cora, shielding her completely with his body. "Take me, Elena. End this with me. Let her go."
"Oh, Julian," Elena laughed, a terrifying sound that echoed off the steel walls. "I’m not going to kill you. I’m going to make you choose."

She pressed a button on her remote console. Red warning lights flooded the lab, and heavy titanium blast doors began sliding down, separating Julian and Cora from the cryo-pod.
"The facility is rigged with thermal charges," Elena announced smoothly. "In three minutes, this entire mountain collapses. You can save your precious nurse, or you can save our mother’s frozen body. But you can't save both."
