On the dining table sat no pot of humble beans, no hurried meals, and no shadow of fear. Instead, the table was laden with a magnificent spread of fresh pastries, sweet hot chocolate, fresh tropical fruit, and a warm, beautiful breakfast prepared to celebrate a brand-new life.
Sofía sat at the head of the table, swinging her legs happily, wearing a bright yellow dress that her mother had bought her the day before. She looked up at Mariana, her eyes bright and completely free of the heavy, dark shadows of the past.
