News broadcasts across Mexico flashed headlines of the massive anti-corruption sweep, highlighting the brilliant forensic audit that blew the lid off the multi-million-peso operation.

Inside his maximum-security prison cell, Raúl watched the news report on a tiny, mounted television screen bolted to the wall. When his mother's name and his own association with the syndicate flashed across the screen as co-conspirators facing an additional fifteen-year racketeering sentence, Raúl dropped his plastic cafeteria tray.
