Chapter 14 - The Convergence

Two weeks later, the legal fallout reached its final bureaucratic milestone.
Nora sat in her lawyer’s office downtown, signing the last set of affidavits required by the bank’s fraud division and the state prosecutor's office. The $140,000 had been fully credited back to her corporate account, and the fraudulent vendor invoices had been legally invalidated.
Her attorney, a sharp-eyed veteran named David Vance (no relation to Liam or Marcus), slid a thick stack of documents into a leather binder.
“Well, Nora, that concludes the formal recovery process,” David said, leaning back in his leather chair. “The district attorney has officially filed criminal charges against Caleb Ross for grand larceny and identity theft. If he returns to the state, he faces an immediate bench warrant.”
“Will he serve time?” Nora asked, closing her pen.
“Given the monetary threshold and the deliberate misuse of an authorized card across multiple high-value transactions, the D.A.’s office is pushing for a felony conviction,” David explained. “Probation is unlikely unless he strikes a plea deal and makes full restitution—which, given his current financial standing, is mathematically impossible.”
Nora nodded slowly. There was no elation in her heart, only a quiet sense of finality. It was like watching a cancerous growth finally excised from healthy tissue. It hurt, it left a scar, but the body was finally free to heal.
“Send copies of the final judgment to my corporate inbox,” Nora said, standing up and buttoning her blazer. “And thank you, David. For your discretion.”

“Anytime, Nora. Though I must say, watching you dismantle a fraudster single-handedly was better than any corporate litigation I’ve handled all year.”
Nora offered a dry, knowing smile. “Practice makes perfect.”
