Chapter 18 - The Unseen Lesson

By midday, the sun broke through the autumn clouds, flooding Nora’s corner office with brilliant, golden light.
Maya stepped inside, holding a stack of freshly printed quarterly reports. “The legal team just sent over the final closure documents for the Caleb Ross asset forfeiture. Do you want me to archive them in the permanent corporate vault?”
“Yes, Maya,” Nora said, spinning her sleek silver pen between her fingers. “Archive them. And make sure they’re encrypted. I never want to look at them again.”
“Done,” Maya said, hesitating for a second before speaking again. “You know... most people would have been a wreck after going through something like that. Losing six figures, dealing with fraud investigators, public scandal... you didn't even blink.”
Nora leaned back in her leather executive chair, looking out over the sprawling Brighton skyline where delivery trucks groaned on streets far below and business executives rushed to meetings they had actually earned the right to attend.
“When you spend years building something real, Maya,” Nora said softly, her voice steady and clear, “you realize that temporary thieves can steal your money, but they can't touch your foundation.”
