Chapter 20 - THE DAWN OF FOREVERThirty minutes later, the flashing police cruisers had cleared out, replaced by the quiet, peaceful hum of the estate settling back into stillness.

Upstairs in the master suite, the biometric steel door of the panic room clicked open. Lily peeked her head out, her big brown eyes blinking in the soft light of the hallway.
"Is the game over, Mommy?" she whispered, clutching her stuffed rabbit.
I knelt down, pulling her into my arms and burying my face in her soft hair, letting out a long, shuddering sigh of pure relief. "Yes, sweetie. The game is over. Everything is okay."
Nathan walked up behind us, kneeling down and wrapping his arms around both of us, pulling us into a warm, unbreakable embrace.
"Are you okay?" I whispered, looking up into his eyes.
"I am now," Nathan smiled softly, his thumb gently wiping away a stray tear from my cheek. "We won, Grace. For good."
Later that night, after Lily had fallen fast asleep in her own bed, Nathan and I stood out on the second-floor balcony, wrapped in a single cashmere blanket, looking out over the sparkling lights of the city skyline stretching toward the harbor.
The air was crisp, clean, and entirely free of ghosts.
Nathan pulled me closer against his chest, resting his chin on my shoulder. "You know, when I built this house, I thought wealth and walls were the only way to keep the world from hurting us."
I turned around in his arms, wrapping my arms around his neck, looking up into the face of the man who had fought through hell and back to protect our family.
"You were wrong," I smiled softly.
May you like
"I know," Nathan whispered, leaning down to press his lips gently against mine. "The only walls that ever mattered were the ones we built around each other."
And as the city lights twinkled in the distance, I knew our story wasn't just a chapter of survival anymore. It was a lifetime of forever.
