Chapter 7 - The Copper MillThe old copper mill loomed against the midnight sky like a skeletal beast of iron and rust. Snow fell in thick, heavy flakes, blanketing the desolate industrial yard in a shroud of white silence.

Inside the cavernous central chamber, rusted machinery cast towering, distorted shadows across the concrete floor.

At the center of the room sat Vincent Bellandi.

He was alone in his wheelchair, resting beneath the harsh glare of a single overhead spotlight dangling from a fraying electrical cord. His heavy charcoal coat was buttoned to the neck, his hands resting calmly on the armrests.

A few yards behind him, standing in the deep shadows of a loading dock, were Anna and Leo, their weapons drawn and ready.

The heavy iron doors of the mill screeched open.

Marco Salvatore stepped inside, flanked by twelve heavily armed enforcers. Cowering behind him, pushed along by a brute in a leather jacket, was Philip Hastings.

Salvatore slowed to a halt, a wide, arrogant grin stretching across his face as he took in the lonely figure of the crime boss sitting defenseless in the middle of the room.

"Well, well, well," Salvatore mocked, spreading his arms wide as his boots crunched on the frozen gravel. "Look at the king of New York. Sitting in a chair, waiting for his executioner. Did you really think you could dictate terms to me, Vincent?"

Vincent didn't flinch. His gray eyes remained fixed on Salvatore with icy detachment.

"You walked right into the mill, Marco," Vincent said, his voice echoing off the corrugated metal walls. "Just like I knew you would."

Salvatore laughed out loud, a harsh, grating sound. "Are you delusional? Look around you, Bellandi! You're paralyzed! You're sitting in a chair! What are you going to do? Run us over?"

Philip Hastings pushed past Salvatore's enforcer, stepping forward into the light, his face twisted with desperate panic.

"Vincent, please!" Philip cried out, pointing a trembling finger. "It was Salvatore! He forced me! He threatened my life! I'm your family now—protect me!"

Anna stepped out from the shadows of the loading dock.

The sound of her boots hitting the concrete silenced the room instantly.

Philip stopped dead in his tracks, his mouth hanging open as he stared at his daughter, holding a sleek, customized submachine gun across her chest.

"A-Anna?" Philip stammered, his face draining of all color. "What... what are you doing with them? Get over here! We're getting out of here!"

Anna stopped ten feet away from him. Her eyes were colder than the winter wind howling outside.

"You traded me for four million dollars, Dad," Anna said, her voice frighteningly steady. "And then you helped murder a man just to cover your tracks. You aren't my father anymore."

Salvatore smirked, glancing between Anna and Vincent. "Well, look at that. A family reunion. Too bad it's going to end in a bloodbath."

Salvatore raised his pistol, aiming it directly at Vincent’s chest. "Any last words, Bellandi?"

Vincent looked at Salvatore. Then, a slow, terrifying smile spread across his face.

"Just one, Marco."
