Chapter 8 - The AwakeningFor a split second, nothing happened.

Then, the entire floor beneath Salvatore’s feet shuddered.

A deafening roar erupted from the industrial trenches running beneath the old copper mill. High-intensity floodlights suddenly blazed to life along the catwalks above, blinding Salvatore and his enforcers with a wall of searing white light.

Before Salvatore could pull the trigger, heavy steel security shutters dropped with explosive force over every exit, sealing the mill completely.

"What is this?!" Salvatore screamed, staggering backward as panic seized his men. "Shoot them! Kill them all!"

But before his enforcers could raise their weapons, the catwalks above flooded with dozens of armed Bellandi loyalists, their assault rifles trained squarely down on Salvatore’s crew.

Vincent didn't move from his chair. But as he looked up at the terrified syndicate captain, something impossible happened.

Slowly, deliberately, Vincent Bellandi pushed his hands against the armrests and stood up.

The wheelchair was not a prison. It was a throne he chose to leave when the time was right. His legs, though recovering from the brutal nerve damage of the crash, supported his weight with rigid, terrifying stability.

Salvatore’s jaw hit the floor. He dropped his pistol, stumbling backward until he hit a concrete pillar.

"Y-You're... you're walking!" Salvatore choked out, terror paralyzing his limbs. "The doctors said your spine was shattered! They said you'd never walk again!"

"Doctors make mistakes," Vincent said coldly, his deep voice carrying over the ringing silence of the mill as he walked forward, stepping down from the raised platform with slow, heavy, deliberate strides. "And traitors make assumptions."

Philip Hastings fell to his knees in the dirt, sobbing hysterically as Vincent stopped right in front of him, casting a long, dark shadow over the trembling investment adviser.

"Please, Vincent... mercy..." Philip whimpered.

Vincent looked down at him with utter disgust, then kicked Philip’s legs out from under him, sending the older man sprawling into the frozen mud.

Salvatore lunged desperately for a dropped weapon, but Leo Mercer materialized from the shadows, kicking the gun away and driving the butt of his shotgun hard into Salvatore’s jaw, dropping the capo to the concrete in a pool of blood.

Within seconds, all of Salvatore’s enforcers dropped their weapons, raising their hands as the Bellandi loyalists swarmed the floor, securing the perimeter.

Anna walked slowly toward Vincent, standing beside him as he looked down at the broken men at his feet.

The war for the syndicate was over.
