Chapter 19 - The Garden of Our Own

Spring returned to upstate New York with an explosion of color, emerald green lawns, and blooming cherry blossoms.
The Cross estate was finally at peace. The security detail was discreet, blending into the background of tall hedges and wrought-iron gates, leaving the family to live a life that felt remarkably, beautifully normal.
On the sprawling back lawn, a massive white tent was set up—not for a cold corporate gala or a forced engagement party, but for a celebration of a different kind: a quiet, intimate vow renewal between Nathaniel and Elena, witnessed only by their closest friends and three small children who insisted on wearing superhero capes over their formal clothes.
Elena stood in her studio in the converted carriage house, adjusting the strap of her simple, flowing linen dress. Her chestnut hair fell in soft waves around her shoulders, completely unpinned, free and natural.
The door opened softly, and Nathaniel walked in. He wore a simple white shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his forearms, looking at her with a depth of devotion that time and trials had only deepened.
"The kids are trying to feed the wedding cake to the golden retriever," Nathaniel smiled, wrapping his arms around her waist from behind.
"Let them," Elena laughed, turning in his arms to rest her hands against his chest. "It's their wedding too, technically."
Nathaniel leaned down, pressing his forehead against hers. "Five years ago, I thought I lost you. I thought money and power were the only things that mattered in this world."

"And now?" Elena whispered, her gray eyes shining.
"Now I know that the only empire worth having is the one we built together," Nathaniel said, kissing her softly, deeply, sealing the past away forever.
