Chapter 7 - The Hidden Ledger

Jonathan laughed, a dry, grating sound. "My dear girl, the controlling voting trust has belonged to the Cross family patriarch since 1984. Unless you forged a document—"

"I didn't forge anything," Elena interrupted, flipping open the folder. "When Nathaniel’s grandfather passed away five years ago, he foresaw this exact brand of corporate tyranny. He knew Celeste and Jonathan would eventually try to gut the company for personal liquidation."

She slid a certified legal document across the table.

"Before he died, he transferred 34% of the voting stock into a confidential irrevocable trust—contingent upon the birth of direct lineal descendants carrying the Cross bloodline, verified by genetic markers and registered with the state."

Celeste’s face lost every trace of color. She snatched the document off the table, her eyes scanning the legal boilerplate, her hands trembling so violently she dropped the papers back onto the polished wood.

"This... this is impossible," Celeste whispered, staring at Elena in sheer horror. "The old man left everything to the primary corporate entity!"

"He left the operating capital to the entity," Nathaniel said, a slow, predatory smile finally spreading across his face as he looked at his mother and uncle. "He left the voting control to my children. Grace, Miles, and Sophie."

The board members began murmuring anxiously, rustling through their tablets. The legal counsel from Lockwood frantically tapped on his phone, calling senior partners to verify the registry.

"It's authentic," the lawyer muttered, turning pale. "The trust was filed under seal five years ago. It takes effect the moment paternity is legally established. Which... which was certified twenty minutes ago."

Jonathan slammed his fist on the table. "This is a setup! A coordinated conspiracy!"

"No, Uncle," Nathaniel leaned over the table, bracing his hands on the mahogany, towering over the conspirators. "This is checkmate."
