Chapter 11 - The Secret Trust Fund

The morning sun filtered through the expansive floor-to-ceiling windows of my penthouse office, casting long, sharp shadows across the polished walnut floor. It had been six months since the takeover of Montgomery Logistics, and the newly minted Apex-Montgomery Global was running with Swiss-watch precision. Yet, amidst the massive corporate restructuring and the endless stream of mergers, an unsettling piece of intelligence landed on my desk.

Marcus stepped into my office, his face unusually grim, holding a heavy, dust-covered leather folder.

"Maya, you need to see this," Marcus said, laying the folder down beside my laptop. "When our legal team was auditing the legacy assets from the old Montgomery offshore accounts, we found a ledger that Ethan’s grandfather hid back in the late nineteen-eighties. It wasn't part of the corporate assets, nor was it listed in the standard family probate."

I raised an eyebrow, leaning back in my ergonomic leather chair. "What kind of ledger? Another hidden subsidiary?"

"Worse," Marcus replied, pulling out a yellowed document stamped with official Swiss notary seals. "It’s a secret private trust fund. Valued at nearly eight hundred million dollars. And the primary beneficiary clause is ironclad. It bypasses corporate debt, federal injunctions, and even bankruptcy liquidations. It was set up specifically for the eldest direct male heirs of the Montgomery bloodline."

My breath caught slightly. "Liam, Noah, and Caleb."

"Exactly," Marcus nodded. "If Eleanor or Ethan knew about this, they could use it to launch a massive legal counter-offensive to claw back a significant portion of their family wealth, completely independent of the corporate stocks we seized."

I stared at the yellowed paper, a cold fury rising in my chest. Eleanor had spent years treating me like dirt, convincing herself and her son that my children were nobodies, while secretly holding the keys to a generational fortune that belonged by right to my boys. She had planned to cut them out entirely, keeping the dynasty pure for whatever aristocratic alliance she deemed worthy.

"Where is the physical key to this trust?" I asked, my voice dropping an octave. "A trust of this magnitude requires a physical bearer bond or a cryptographic key held in a secure vault."

"Geneva," Marcus answered. "Specifically, the Union Bank of Switzerland, private vault sector. And according to the access logs, the vault can only be opened by a direct bloodline descendant over the age of twenty-one... unless the current head of the family signs an emergency execution waiver due to corporate insolvency."

I stood up, walking slowly to the window and looking out over the bustling Chicago streets. "Which means Eleanor still thinks she can claim it if she proves the boys' lineage isn't legally registered under Montgomery family statutes. She’s playing a long game."

"She’s already filing papers in a private Swiss tribunal," Marcus warned. "She thinks she can outmaneuver us in a jurisdiction outside U.S. federal oversight."

I gave a cold, confident smile, turning away from the window. "Eleanor thinks she invented the game of high-society chess. She forgot that I own the board now."
