Chapter 27 - The Return to Lake Geneva

Two months after the Tokyo summit, I took a private flight back to Europe, accompanied only by my sons.

We drove through the picturesque Swiss countryside until we reached the shores of Lake Geneva. Rising above the manicured slopes was the grand historic estate that had once belonged to the Montgomery family—the very estate where Eleanor had planned my public humiliation ten years ago.

We had purchased the estate back during the corporate liquidation, but I had left it untouched, preserving it as a monument to how far we had climbed.

We walked through the wrought-iron gates, stepping onto the grand marble courtyard. The fountain splashed gently in the afternoon sun; the rose gardens bloomed with brilliant white petals.

Liam, Noah, and Caleb walked over to the edge of the stone balcony—the exact spot where Eleanor’s champagne flute had shattered into a thousand glittering pieces a decade ago.

"Can you believe this used to be considered an impenetrable fortress?" Noah chuckled, leaning against the stone balustrade.

"It was never a fortress," I said, walking up behind them and resting my hands on their shoulders. "It was a golden cage. And cages are only terrifying until you realize you have wings."
