Chapter 7 - The Homecoming

Three days later, the rain cleared over Seattle, leaving the city sparkling under a brilliant autumn sun.

The front gates of the Anderson estate swung open, not for investors, lawyers, or corporate spies, but for a simple white van bearing the logo of St. Matthew’s Health Services.

Jack stood at the top of the grand marble steps, flanked by Amy and Lisa, who were wearing matching yellow dresses and holding small flower baskets.

The van door slid open, and Betty Rivera stepped out, leaning slightly on a cane, her silver hair catching the sunlight.

When she looked up and saw the grand house—not as a place of servitude and fear, but as a home waiting to welcome her back—she stopped. Tears filled her eyes.

Amy and Lisa dropped their baskets and ran down the steps as fast as their little legs could carry them, throwing their arms around Betty’s waist.

“Grandma! You’re home!” Lisa cried out happily.

Betty knelt down, burying her face in their dark hair, sobbing tears of pure, unadulterated joy.

Jack walked down the steps slowly, stopping a few feet away. He didn't say a word. He simply held out his arms, and Betty walked right into them, burying her face against his chest just like she used to do when he was a lonely, frightened boy hiding under the kitchen table.

“Welcome home, Betty,” Jack whispered, his voice thick with emotion.

“Thank you, my boy,” she smiled softly, looking up at him. “You finally built the home we always talked about.”
