Chapter 17 - Shadows Fade

Life inside the Sterling Tower settled into a rhythm of profound, unshakable peace.

The triplets—Leo, Maya, and Thomas—were walking now, filling the cavernous penthouse with the joyful chaos of early childhood. Arthur had officially retired from active daily management of Sterling-Vance Global, transitioning into the role of patriarch, grandfather, and my most trusted confidant.

One evening, after putting the children to sleep, I stood on the private balcony watching the lights of Manhattan stretch out like a sea of diamonds.

Arthur walked up beside me, placing a warm cashmere shawl over my shoulders.

"You’ve built an empire out of the ashes, Clara," he said softly, handing me a glass of sparkling cider. "Your father would have been more than proud. He would have been in awe."

"I didn't do it alone," I smiled, leaning my head against his shoulder. "You gave me the ocean when I was drowning, Arthur."

"I only handed you a compass," he replied. "You were the one who navigated the storm."

My phone, resting on the patio table, flashed with a silent notification from a legal courier: ESTATE LIQUIDATION COMPLETE. VANCE-STERLING HOLDINGS FULLY CONSOLIDATED.

I didn't even pick it up to read the details. The past no longer required my attention. Every debt had been settled, every ghost laid to rest, and every lie dismantled piece by piece.
