Chapter 13 - The Shadow in the RainThe rain burned like ice against Claireās face as she walked away from the airfield. The sirens were fading into the background. Ethan was in federal custody, facing thirty years for money laundering and conspiracy. Harrison was in the ICU under armed guard, his empire destroyed.
It was over. Or so she thought.
Claire walked toward her car parked near the dark perimeter fence of the airfield. She unlocked the driver's door and reached for the handle.
CLICK.
The cold barrel of a suppressed pistol pressed firmly against the back of Claireās neck.
"Did you really think I wouldn't have a key to the transport van, little sister?" Eleanor's voice purred softly into Claire's ear from behind.
Claire froze, her heart hammering against her ribs. "Eleanor..."
"You were very clever, Claire," Eleanor whispered, her breath warm against Claireās wet neck. "Using AI audio, setting up Ethan, activating Mother's protocol to wipe out the money... brilliant. Truly brilliant. You proved you're a true Blackwood."
"If the money is gone, killing me won't bring it back," Claire said, keeping her voice as steady as possible.
"Oh, I don't care about the $50 million anymore," Eleanor laughed softly, a terrifying sound in the dark rain. "I care about loose ends. And you, my dear sister, are the biggest loose end of all."
CHAPTER 13 HOOK: Eleanor pulled back the hammer of the gun. CLACK. "Say goodbye to the Blackwood legacy, Claire."
