Chapter 6 - A Sister's RevengeBANG! BANG!

The gunshots exploded—not from Harrison's men, but from the darkness of the hallway behind Eleanor.

The two enforcers crumpled to the floor instantly. Harrison gasped, staggering back as blood splattered across his polished shoes.

Standing in the doorway, holding a service weapon with cold, steady hands, was Detective Richard Vance. Behind him stood a dozen armed SWAT officers, their laser sights painting bright red dots across Harrison’s chest.

"Put the cane down, Harrison!" Vance barked. "Drop it NOW!"

Harrison lowered his hands slowly, a dark smile spreading across his face. "Detective... you're making a huge mistake. I'm a victim of a break-in."

"Save it," Vance said, stepping forward to cuff the old man. "Martha just walked into the precinct with a full confession and a flash drive. We know about the paralytic poison. We know about the fake funeral. It's over."

As officers dragged Harrison away into the rainy night, Vance turned to Eleanor.

"You knew he was alive," Vance said quietly. "That's why you returned to Blackwood Manor three weeks ago. You weren't trying to hurt your sister. You were trying to draw your father out of the shadows."

Eleanor pulled her raincoat tighter around herself, her face emotionless. "Claire was too weak to protect herself. Ethan was too cowardly to stand up to him. Someone had to end this nightmare."

"And what about Ethan?" Vance asked. "He's currently in a holding cell, believing he's going down for attempted murder."

"Let him stew for a few hours," Eleanor said coldly. "It builds character. Now take me to the hospital. I need to see my sister."

Twenty minutes later, Eleanor walked into Claire’s private room at Metro General Hospital. The monitors were quiet now. Claire was sitting up in bed, her head bandaged, looking out at the rain against the window pane.

When the door clicked, Claire turned. Her tear-stained eyes softened as she saw Eleanor.

"Is it... is it finally over?" Claire whispered softly.

Eleanor walked to the side of the bed, reaching out to take Claire’s hands into her own.

"It's over, Claire," Eleanor said, her voice softer than it had been in years. "Father is arrested. Ethan is being cleared of the murder charge. The money is safe. We are finally free."

CHAPTER 6 HOOK: Claire looked at Eleanor, tears brimming in her eyes. But as she squeezed her sister's hand, Claire’s eyes dropped to Eleanor’s sleeve—where a small drop of dark, dried blood sat on her wrist. Blood that had been there before Claire fell from the balcony.
