Chapter 7 - The Arrest & The TrialThree months later. The High Court of the District District was packed to maximum capacity. Media cameras flashed endlessly behind the velvet ropes outside the courthouse.

On trial for conspired murder, fraud, and faking his own death: Harrison Blackwood.

Sitting in the witness stand was Claire Blackwood, dressed in a sharp black dress, looking stronger and more composed than she ever had in her life.

"Mrs. Blackwood," the prosecutor asked, walking toward the jury. "Can you tell the court in your own words what happened on the night of August 2nd on the balcony of Blackwood Manor?"

Claire took a deep breath, her eyes flicking toward her father sitting at the defense table in an orange jumpsuit.

"My father ordered Martha to poison me," Claire stated clearly. "He blackmailed my husband, Ethan, threatening to ruin our family if Ethan didn't help him liquidate my trust fund. On the night of the party, the poison caused my legs to give out while I was standing near the balcony railing."

"And what did your sister, Eleanor, do?" the prosecutor asked.

"Eleanor saw me slipping," Claire continued, her voice trembling slightly. "She ran across the room and tried to grab me. But because of the poison, I couldn't hold onto her. She saved my life by holding on long enough for Ethan to reach us and break my fall."

The jury nodded in sympathy. The case was airtight. The judge pounded his gavel.

"Harrison Blackwood, on the charges of attempted murder in the first degree, grand larceny, and corporate fraud, this court finds you GUILTY on all counts. You are hereby sentenced to LIFE imprisonment without the possibility of parole."

The courtroom erupted into cheers and commotion. Ethan, sitting in the gallery, buried his face in his hands, weeping tears of pure relief. Eleanor stood near the exit, her face expressionless, watching her father being led away in chains.

Outside on the courthouse steps, reporters swarmed Claire and Ethan.

"Mrs. Blackwood! How does it feel to finally have justice?" "Is the Blackwood Trust finally secured?"

Ethan wrapped his arm around Claire, kissing her forehead in front of the flashing cameras. "We are just looking forward to rebuilding our lives," Ethan told the reporters. "The estate is sold, the debt is settled, and my wife and I are starting fresh."

CHAPTER 7 HOOK: That evening, inside the empty, silent Blackwood Manor before the new buyers moved in, Eleanor stood alone in her father's former study. The fireplace crackled softly.

A phone rang on the desk. Eleanor picked it up.

A deep, whispered voice spoke from the receiver: "The first half of the $50 million has been successfully routed through Switzerland, boss. No one suspects a thing."
