Chapter 1 - The Shattered Dynasty

“Your mother kept Noah’s real birth certificate hidden in the vault of her private estate—because Celeste didn't die of an illness. She died giving birth to him, and your mother stole him to protect the family name!”
The revelation hit the grand lobby like an artillery shell.
Julian felt the world drop out from beneath his feet. His hands, wrapped tightly around his four-year-old son, trembled violently. He looked down at Noah, whose tear-stained face was buried in his chest, then at the silver pocket watch held in the maid’s shaking hands. The black-and-white face of Celeste—the woman he had loved, the woman he was told had abandoned him five years ago—gared back at him through scratched glass.
"Liar!" Madam Eleanor’s voice cut through the air, sharp enough to draw blood. The matriarch of the Sterling empire stepped forward, her maroon silk gown rustling like dry leaves over grave soil. Her cane struck the polished marble floor with a deafening crack. "You are a disgraced, scheming opportunist, Maya! Security will drag you out of this house before you breathe another lie into my son's ears!"
"Touch me and the media receives the medical records!" Maya spat, her voice laced with lethal conviction. She wiped a streak of salt and mascara from her cheek, her eyes locked onto Eleanor with pure, unadulterated hatred. "You called Celeste a gold-digger. You told Julian she ran away to Europe with another man. But you paid off the clinic in Switzerland, didn't you? You forced her into isolation while she carried Julian's child, and when her heart gave out during labor, you forged the death certificate and took Noah!"
Julian stood up slowly, setting Noah gently on the velvet settee behind him. His jaw was set so tight the bone threatened to snap. His eyes, usually cold and calculating in the boardroom, were now black pits of agony.
"Mother," Julian whispered. The sound was low, dangerous, like a tear in the fabric of reality. "Look at me."
Madam Eleanor didn't flinch. Decades of ruthless corporate dominance had calcified her heart into steel. "Julian, do not listen to this wretched girl. Eva was hired as a nanny under false pretenses. She and her sister, Maya, infiltrated our home to bleed us dry. They are grifters!"
"Eva is my sister, and she loves that boy more than you ever loved your own son!" Maya screamed. She reached into her coat pocket and pulled out a worn, leather-bound diary, tossing it onto the glass coffee table between them. "Read it, Julian! Read how Celeste begged for you while Eleanor held her captive in the estate! Read how your mother threatened to ruin your life, your company, and your inheritance if Celeste ever contacted you!"
Julian lunged forward, grabbing the diary. His fingers flipped through the pages—the handwriting was undeniably Celeste’s. Slanting, delicate, filled with devotion... and overwhelming terror.
“Day 182... The doctors say the baby is strong, but my body is failing. Madam Eleanor came today. She told me Julian signed the papers to disown the baby. I know he wouldn't. I know he loves me. But I can't reach him... They took my phone... If I don't survive this, Maya, find my baby. Don't let her raise him in that house of ice...”
A dry, horrific sob tore from Julian’s throat. He fell to his knees on the marble, the diary clutched against his chest. Five years of grief, five years of resentment toward a dead woman he thought had abandoned him, collapsed in a single instant. He had spent half a decade hating the only woman who had ever truly loved him.
"You..." Julian turned his head slowly toward Eleanor, his face pale as ash. "You killed her."
"I saved this family!" Eleanor roared, dropping her poised facade for the first time in thirty years. Her eyes dilated with fanatic zeal. "That girl was a nobody! A commoner from a line of traitors! If the board knew you fathered a child with a destitute artist's sister, the stock prices would have plummeted! I gave you a heir, Julian! I purged the stain from our legacy!"
"Eva..." Noah’s tiny voice broke the suffocating silence. The boy slipped off the settee, his little shoes tapping on the stone as he reached out toward Maya. "Where is Eva? Is she coming back?"
Maya’s eyes softened as she looked at her nephew, but before she could step forward, the double front doors burst open.
Four armed private security guards stormed into the lobby, led by Richard Vance—Eleanor’s fiercely loyal head of security and executor.
"Madam Sterling," Richard said calmly, pulling a pair of heavy leather restraints from his belt. "The transport is ready."
"Good," Eleanor sneered, pointing at Maya. "Remove her. Put her in the basement holding cell until we process the non-disclosure agreements. If she opens her mouth to the press, execute the collateral protocol on her family."
"No!" Julian stood up, stepping between the guards and Maya. "Touch her and I swear on my life, Richard, I will tear this company to the ground and burn you with it!"
"I'm sorry, Mr. Sterling," Richard said coldly, raising a taser. "Your mother still holds ninety percent of the voting shares in the Sterling Trust. As of five minutes ago, she declared you mentally unfit to execute your duties. You no longer run this house. Or this empire."
Before Julian could react, two guards grabbed his arms, pinning him against the cold marble pillar. Noah shrieked in terror, crying out for his father as Eleanor walked over, grabbing the little boy by his wrist and dragging him toward the grand staircase.

"Take the maid away," Eleanor ordered without looking back. "And prepare the psychiatric unit at St. Jude’s for my son. He needs to... reset."
As Maya was tackled to the floor, her cheek pressed against the freezing stone, she looked up through her tears to see Julian fighting wildly against the guards, his eyes burning with a promise of absolute vengeance.
