The voice came from the private doorway connecting the executive boardroom.
Richard froze.
Marcus Vance stepped into the office. His face was pale, his hands shaking, but his eyes burned with an agonizing mixture of heartbreak and absolute fury. In his hand, he held a sleek digital audio recorder, its red recording light glowing steadily.
"Marcus?" Richard gasped, his suave composure instantly shattering into genuine panic. "What... what are you doing here?!"
"I’ve been listening to every word from the boardroom speaker, Dad," Marcus choked out, his voice trembling with emotion. "I couldn't believe Erin when she told me her suspicions yesterday. I wanted to prove her wrong. I wanted to believe my father was just a harsh, ambitious man... not a monster who arming assassins to kill the woman I love!"
"Marcus, listen to me!" Richard pleaded, stepping around the desk, his hands raised. "I built this empire for you! For our family! Alexander Grant was a worm who deserved everything he got, and this girl—"
"This girl rebuilt her life from the ashes of your lies!" Marcus roared, tears streaming down his face. "And you tried to murder her!"
Before Richard could react, the heavy double doors of his office were kicked open.

"Richard Vance!" the lead federal agent announced, drawing a pair of steel handcuffs. "You are under arrest for federal money laundering, corporate wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit attempted murder!"
