Chapter 6 - The Ultimatum“You’re filing for divorce? You can’t be serious.”

Alexander paced the length of the master bedroom, his tie ripped off and thrown onto the Persian rug. Downstairs, the dancers had packed up their gear and left with a polite wave and a handsome tip from Erin, leaving behind an estate that smelled of champagne, cologne, and absolute ruin.
Erin sat at the vanity mirror, calmly removing her diamond earrings and placing them into a velvet tray.
“I am entirely serious, Alexander,” Erin said, her reflection meeting his frantic gaze in the mirror. “The marriage is over. It’s been over since the day we signed the papers and you kept a photograph of Sophia hidden in your desk drawer.”
“That was the past!” Alexander shouted, running a hand through his hair. “Sophia was a mistake tonight, a momentary lapse in judgment! But we have a brand, a social standing, a life together! You can’t just walk away because of a petty spending spree!”
Erin turned slowly in her chair, facing him. The cold, unyielding authority in her dark eyes silenced him instantly.
“Petty spending spree?” Erin repeated softly. “You humiliated me in front of our friends, our families, and yourself by walking out on our anniversary to chase a ghost. You treated me like a piece of furniture you bought to decorate your respectable suburban life.”
She stood up, walking over to the bedside table where she had placed the titanium black card. She picked it up and tossed it onto the floor right at his feet.
“The cards are canceled, the accounts are frozen pending forensic audit by my father’s legal team, and divorce papers will be served to your office by nine o'clock tomorrow morning,” Erin stated flatly.

Alexander stared down at the card on the floor, a cold wave of dread washing over him. “Erin… please. Let’s talk about this. Don’t do something we’ll both regret. We can fix this.”
“We aren't fixing anything,” Erin said, walking past him toward the guest suite. “Sleep on the couch, Alexander. You’re no longer welcome in my bed.”
