Chapter 6 - The Ironclad Alibi

Elena stared at the tablet in horror, her breath coming in shallow, ragged gasps. The walls were closing in, and she could see the precise, calculated trap snapping shut around her neck.
"You hacked the system," she breathed, the realization dawning with sickening clarity. "You had a secondary loop."
"I built the system, Elena," Arthur corrected quietly, handing the children over to a frantically running housekeeper who had just appeared from the kitchen doors, wide-eyed and pale. "You thought you were the only predator in this house. But you forgot a fundamental rule of wealth: never bite the hand that feeds you, and never steal from a man who owns the vault."
"You can't do anything to me," Elena spat, her panic suddenly morphing back into defensive venom as she realized the housekeeper was out of earshot. She crossed her arms, trying to regain a shred of dignity. "If you call the police, do you know what happens to the Sterling stock? Do you know what the tabloids will do to our public image? A high-profile divorce, custody battles, financial ruin. You’ll destroy everything you’ve built over a petty domestic dispute!"
Arthur let out a dry, humorless chuckle. He stepped closer to her, towering over her petite frame.
"Who said anything about calling the police?" Arthur whispered.
Elena’s eyes widened. "What?"
"The police are for amateurs, Elena. Public trials are messy. They take months, years, media circuses," Arthur said smoothly, pulling a sleek, black titanium flash drive from his pocket and holding it up to the light. "This drive contains not only the footage of you locking my children in a doghouse, but also every single financial transaction you’ve made behind my back over the last three years. The shell companies in the Cayman Islands. The real estate purchases in Zurich. The embezzlement from the Sterling Foundation."

Elena’s face turned the color of ash. She stumbled back against the stone wall of the courtyard. "You... you knew about the accounts?"
"From day one," Arthur replied, his expression utterly devoid of warmth. "I let you steal. I let you build your little nest egg, because I wanted to see how deep your greed went. And today, you finally hit rock bottom."
