Chapter 7 - The Midnight Audit

By midnight, the mansion was dead silent, save for the rhythmic clicking of computer keys in Arthur’s private study.
Lily and Noah were sleeping soundly in the secure nursery upstairs, guarded by private security personnel brought in from a Swiss firm—men who answered only to Arthur, completely detached from the household staff.
Elena was locked in the master bedroom, her phone confiscated, the Wi-Fi in her wing severed completely. She was trapped in the lap of luxury, realizing too late that her golden cage had transformed into a prison cell.
Arthur sat at his mahogany desk, reviewing the final legal documents displayed across three curved monitors. The divorce papers weren't ordinary filings; they were ironclad, preemptive asset-forfeiture agreements drafted by the most ruthless corporate lawyers in the country. By signing them, Elena would walk away with zero dollars, zero assets, and a permanent, sealed non-disclosure agreement backed by the threat of federal indictment for corporate fraud.
His phone buzzed on the desk. An encrypted notification from his lead attorney: “All accounts frozen. Offshore assets seized under the emergency forfeiture clause. She is legally bankrupt as of 11:59 PM.”
Arthur leaned back in his leather chair, swirling a glass of single-malt scotch. He didn't feel joy. He didn't feel triumphant. He felt a cold, hollow emptiness that came from realizing the person he had trusted most in the world was nothing more than a parasite wearing a human face.
The intercom on his desk chimed softly. The voice of the head security guard crackled through the small speaker: "Sir, Mrs. Sterling is attempting to breach the west balcony door. She’s demanding to speak with you."

Arthur took a slow sip of his drink, his eyes fixed on the live camera feed of the master bedroom.
"Let her come down," Arthur replied calmly. "It's time to finalize the audit."
