"Are you certain, Claire?" Daniel’s voice was raspy, stripped of sleep, yet sharp as a razor blade. "If we initiate Protocol Nine, the independent board members will be notified instantly. The algorithmic freeze on the executive accounts will engage within sixty minutes. Dominic will be locked out of every corporate ledger, every operational signature, and every asset account tied to Marlowe Holdings."
Claire stood by the hotel room window, watching the rain streak down the glass against the faint, bruised light of a Manhattan dawn. The grief that had hollowed her out hours ago had calcified into a cold, unbreakable resolve.
"I am standing in a hotel room six blocks from my own home, Daniel," Claire said quietly, her voice devoid of tremor. "My husband is currently asleep in our bed, wrapped in the arms of his twenty-four-year-old executive assistant, while I spent seventy-two hours bleeding my soul dry to keep his empire solvent. Protocol Nine is no longer an option. It is an eviction."
"Consider it done," Daniel replied. "I'll wake the trustees. We begin the audit of his private procurement approvals immediately. I want to see what Sienna Brooks has been helping him sign."
"Dig into everything," Claire commanded. "Every shell company, every overseas transfer, every unauthorized real estate acquisition over the last six months. If Dominic traded our legacy for a cheap blonde in a cream-colored dress, let's see how much of the empire he has left to give her."
