Chapter 10 - The Queen’s ReignThree months later.

The autumn air over New York was crisp, sharp, and clean.

Inside the grand ballroom of the Plaza Hotel, the annual Marlowe Foundation Gala was underway. Hundreds of the city’s most elite politicians, corporate titans, and international diplomats mingled beneath glittering chandeliers, celebrating the stability and renewed philanthropic vision of Marlowe Holdings.

At the center table stood Dominic Marlowe.

He wore a classic black tuxedo, his posture confident, but his demeanor carried a new, grounded gravity—a man who had learned the hard way that true power required humility, discipline, and unshakeable loyalty.

As he stepped up to the podium to deliver the keynote address, the ballroom fell into a respectful hush.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Dominic began, his deep voice carrying effortlessly across the room. "For decades, people looked at Marlowe Holdings and saw a dynasty built on power, ambition, and survival. They called me untouchable. They called me a king."

He paused, turning his gaze toward the side of the stage where a woman stood quietly in the shadows, wearing a breathtaking midnight-blue silk gown, her dark hair pinned back with effortless elegance.

"They were wrong," Dominic continued, his voice softening with unmistakable emotion. "An empire isn't built on fear, or guns, or money. It is built on trust, on resilience, and on the quiet, unyielding strength of the person who stands beside you when the world is falling apart. Tonight, I am not standing here as a self-made titan. I am standing here as a man who owes everything he is—and everything he loves—to the true architect of our dynasty. My wife, Claire Marlowe."

The ballroom erupted into thunderous, standing applause. Heads turned, cameras flashed, and hundreds of powerful people looked toward the quiet woman in the shadows with newfound, absolute awe.

Claire didn't smile for the cameras. She didn't wave like a trophy wife.

She simply looked at Dominic, her expression calm, formidable, and entirely sovereign.

The king had his crown back. But everyone in the room—and everyone in the underworld—knew exactly who wore the real crown.

And from that day forward, no one ever dared to forget it.
