Chapter 7 - The Federal StormThe screen of the laptop lit up with a live news broadcast from a local Manhattan station.

“Breaking News: Federal agents, accompanied by representatives from the Department of Justice, have executed a massive search warrant at Marlowe Atlantic Shipping’s primary distribution hub in Brooklyn. Sources report that the raid is linked to a massive international smuggling ring operating under cover of legitimate corporate logistics...”
Dominic spun around, staring at the screen in absolute disbelief.
"That's impossible," Dominic growled, stepping into the room. "The Brooklyn docks are clean. We finalized those compliance protocols three years ago."
"They aren't clean anymore," Daniel said grimly, tapping keys on the laptop to bring up encrypted law enforcement data feeds. "Look at the authorization codes on the secondary shipping manifests filed yesterday morning. The signature isn't yours, Dominic. And it isn't mine."
Claire stepped closer, her eyes scanning the digital document. Her breath caught in her throat.
The signature at the bottom of the illegal customs override form was clear, pristine, and unmistakable.
Sienna Brooks.
"She didn't just help you misappropriate funds, Dominic," Claire whispered, horror dawning over her features like a cold shadow. "She used your executive login credentials while you were asleep to route illegal cargo through our primary shipping lanes. She was working with our rivals the entire time."
Dominic’s face drained of all color. The fury that replaced his remorse was terrifying—a cold, violent wrath that belonged to the ruthless mafia heir he had tried so hard to leave behind.
"She set me up," Dominic hissed, his fists clenching so hard his nails dug into his palms. "The offshore accounts, the consulting fees, the federal raid—she wasn't just a mistress. She was an operative planted by the Moretti syndicate to take down Marlowe Holdings from the inside."
"And you walked right into the trap with your eyes wide open," Claire said, her voice cutting like glass.
The gravity of the situation crashed over them with crushing force. It wasn't just a domestic betrayal anymore. It was an existential war. If the federal government traced Sienna’s illegal shipping manifests back to Dominic’s unmonitored executive credentials, the DOJ wouldn't just freeze the company—they would indict Dominic under the RICO Act, dismantling the entire Marlowe dynasty in a single federal sweep.
"We have two hours before the DOJ subpoenas the primary corporate server," Daniel warned, looking up from his glasses. "Once they pull the unredacted logs, Dominic is looking at twenty years in a federal penitentiary."

Dominic turned slowly to look at Claire. The man who had once ruled New York’s underworld now stood stripped of his power, his empire, and his freedom, looking at the only person in the world who could save him.
"Claire," Dominic said quietly, his voice breaking. "I know I destroyed our marriage. I know I don't deserve your help. But if you let them take me, they take everything we built together. Please... help me fix this."
