Chapter 2 - The Sound of a Falling KingdomDominic Marlowe woke up to absolute silence.

It was the kind of unnatural silence that usually preceded a hit or an FBI raid. For a man who had lived his entire life navigating the razor-thin margins between legitimate corporate dominance and the brutal underbelly of the East Coast underworld, instinct was a survival mechanism. His eyes snapped open.
Sienna was still sleeping soundly beside him, her breathing soft and rhythmic against his bare shoulder.
Dominic frowned, rolling over to check the digital clock on the mahogany nightstand. It flashed 6:15 AM.
Usually, by this hour, Claire was already awake. The penthouse would be filled with the faint, comforting sounds of her morning routine—the quiet hum of the espresso machine, the rustle of financial broadsheets, the crisp click of her heels as she reviewed briefing packets for the day's board meetings. But today, the air smelled stale. There was no coffee. There was no Claire.
He sat up, sliding out from under the gray silk sheets. A strange, cold knot twisted in his stomach. He looked down at the floor. Her leather briefcase was gone. The dark, immaculate tailored suit she had worn to the international summit three days ago was missing from the walk-in closet.
"Claire?" he called out, his deep voice echoing in the expansive bedroom.
No answer.
He threw on a pair of dark trousers and walked out into the hallway. The penthouse was dead. The fresh white lilies he had barely noticed the night before now looked like funeral arrangements.
As he stepped toward his private study, his phone—resting on the sleek marble kitchen island—began to vibrate violently. It didn't stop. Call after call, notification after notification, pinging in a relentless digital symphony.
He snatched it off the counter and unlocked the screen.
SECURITY ALERT: EXECUTIVE OVERRIDE ACTIVATED. FUNDS FROZEN: PRIMARY OPERATIONAL ACCOUNTS. ACCESS REVOKED: MARLOWE HOLDINGS GLOBAL LEDGERS.
Dominic stared at the screen, his breath catching in his throat. His thumb flew across the glass, opening the executive banking app.
Access Denied. Credentials Invalid. Please Contact System Administrator: C. Marlowe.
Before he could process the sheer impossibility of the notification, his private line rang. It was Aaron Cole, his head of security.
"Boss," Aaron said, his voice tight, completely devoid of its usual military-grade composure.
"Aaron, what the hell is happening to my accounts? Who locked me out of the corporate portal?" Dominic demanded, his temper flaring, the mafia heir rising instantly to the surface.
"That’s... that’s why I’m calling, Mr. Marlowe," Aaron stammered slightly. "Mrs. Marlowe initiated Protocol Nine about two hours ago. The independent trustees have locked down every asset, every subsidiary, and every physical entrance to the corporate headquarters. We've been ordered to deny you entry until the compliance audit is complete."
Dominic froze, the phone slipping slightly in his grip.

"Claire did what?"
"She was here last night, sir," Aaron said grimly. "She checked the security footage, ordered a full preservation of the records, and walked out into the rain. She knows about the penthouse, boss. She knows everything."
