Chapter 10 - The Final ProtocolThe sirens outside grew deafeningly loud as a fleet of federal coast guard cutters and FBI black-and-whites swarmed Pier 44, their searchlights cutting through the dying rain.

Inside the quiet yacht bridge, the air was thick with the scent of ozone and adrenaline.
Dominic walked slowly toward me. Up close, I could see the sheer exhaustion etched into every line of his face, the pale pallor of his skin, the cost of his miraculous return from the dead.
He stopped just inches away from me, his dark eyes searching my face with an intensity that made the surrounding chaos fade into total insignificance.
“You saved my life twice tonight, Clara,” he murmured, his voice softening, losing its dangerous edge.
“You saved mine back in that hospital room when you woke up,” I replied quietly, looking down at his bruised hands. “What happens now, Dominic? You’re a billionaire fugitive, your brother is going to federal prison, and I’m just... an ICU nurse.”
Dominic reached out, gently lifting my chin with his warm, calloused fingers, forcing me to meet his gaze.
“You were never just an ICU nurse, Clara,” he whispered, a faint, genuine smile touching his lips. “You were my anchor when I was drowning in the dark. And shipping empires can be rebuilt... but a man only finds his soul once.”
He pulled a heavy, solid-gold signet ring stamped with the Vale family crest from his pinky finger and pressed it firmly into my palm, curling my fingers tightly around it.
“Stay with me, Clara,” he whispered, his eyes burning with a promise that spanned far beyond the stormy Boston harbor. “The war is over. Let’s start the real chapter.”
Outside, the rain finally stopped, and the first rays of dawn broke over the horizon, painting the harbor in brilliant gold.

I looked down at the ring in my hand, then back up into his dark, unwavering eyes, and slowly, a smile broke across my face.
